All New Everything

Im pretty happy the way my year started off, first event and it was the BOMB! You might have been there? Blankets and Wine! Yes! 5000+ people and the afterparty was just insane with me and the Epic Nation Live Crew! So this seems to me 2013 is blessed huh? Well it is, and its time i also reinvented some things.
From now on, TomisoOnAir has changed to StereoSessions ( the first one didn't really make sense). I'm not gonna just be releasing idiotic mixtapes here and there, rather, take my time, have a good music selection and also listen to what people want to listen to, current trends and then go to the studio and record an episode, once a month.
Im also considering taking some music production classes. I would love to produce my own music, something that is up to my standards, not really sure when exactly i'll start but its on my to do list :-)
Keep ip Epic Nation : Live, a lot of big things coming. I'll be keeping you updated but for now, i bid you adieu! Be Live, Be Cool.

SIGNED!

This month is my first year anniversary as a deejay and I have to say, this s#it cray! Its tough out here in this industry and with the alarming rate of new deejays coming up, the dream of 'making it big' and being at the top is becoming thinner every day. I have seen many of my comrades who we were with at the I Can Scratch dj academy fall by the wayside and giving up and its just heartbreaking.

My year has been, quite good if I do say so myself. I've had a number of bad gigs and a number of great gigs. I've struggled hard, been turned down, been duped by organizers and not been paid, lost hope, pushed myself and risen up again all because. . .i love what i do! Deejaying is all about passion and commitment, its a game of 'go hard or go home'

But this week has been the highlight of my career. I have been looking for 'the break' you know, that moment or action or step that lets you know you're heading in the right direction. . . and I got it!

As of yesterday, I became the newest member/affiliate dj of Epic★Nation™Live which is the events division of Epic Nation Group Limited. Hows this gonna pan out? Stick around and find out, for now i bid you adieu! My first gig should be next week. :-) :-)

Tribute To The Legends

Deejays may have a bigger name or reputation in the industry but when it comes down to it, a deejay cant be a deejay without the artists. Artists are the heart and soul of music for without them, there would be no melody & tune for a deejay to manipulate and play with

This month #TomisoOnAir is a tribute to two of the musical legends in the world our first being Hip-hop & Rap king LIL WAYNE! (and the crowd goes wild). tomiso on air episode 3 airing live on June 11th will be dubbed 'Wayne's World' will feature huge hits from his albums Carter 1 2 3 and 4, Lights Out, Like Father Like Son, Rebirth, I Am Not A Human Being and a few of his underground singles. Lil Wayne fans, this is for you!!!

Tomiso On Air

This week, one of the most diverse and unique Kenyan artist, Muthoni The Drummer Queen, released her new collaboration track "Vile Inafaa"  with Octopizzo. Now, for those die hard fans of DQ you will know that this track is not her. . . normal style of music. Somehow she seemed to have tested the waters of rap and hip hop and what better way of doing it than collaborating with Kenya's king of hip hop octopizzo aka number nane!

She nailed it. The track has a smooth flow to it. . .sort of hip-hop/rap re invented. So i got to thinking, what can i do to spruce up my trends musically? I mean ordinary deejays do club gigs, concerts and release mix-tapes. . that's just about it, but, do i want to be an ordinary deejay or do i want to be unique. . .diverse. . .bring something fresh to my fans?

So from now on, no more normal mix tapes for me. Instead, i will be releasing episodes of my music mixes and blends semi-weekly (i.e every other week), recorded at an undisclosed location in Nairobi. Starting this coming Monday 14th of May, get ready for "Tomiso Live On Air Episode 1"  pure music mixes & blends for you to download, share and listen!

Africa Electrified!!!

Africa has come far, musically speaking. Gone are the days when we couldn't appreciate our own tunes and were so focused on western music. African music trends have grown and well as a deejay, i have to grow with it.

After being in multiple "blankets and wine" events and listening to the music they had, i set aside time to get in tune with music from my own continent. For the past few weeks Ive been listening to Afro-House music, Afro-Dance music and Kwaito and i have to say, pretty amazing! At first i didn't think it was my cup of tea (don't blame me for being clouded judgement) but now. . .damn! So now, whatever i have, i have to give to my fans, though i didn't know exactly how to do that without losing myself. . .then it hit me! Why not combine my new found addiction with my specialty i.e afro house afro dance combined with tech house and electro dance music!

Africa Electrified was the offspring. A blend of afro tunes together with tech house and edm. I'm not sure if i nailed it as i hadn't attempted to do such a thing before. . but oh well, i guess ill have to wait to find out from you!
Stay tuned, the mix-tape goes live online this Friday then you can download it from there and give me constructive criticism.

Stay Inspired

Stay Blessed

Of Mice and Men

Last month and this month were really good and more and more coming up. I had the Black and White affair, The Masquerade Party, A Fashion Show and i did 'Seduction2'. But among those gigs, i got the experience of the "REAL" Kenyan entertainment scene, or behind the scenes if you may. I'm talking about what happens behind the scenes of an event. The planning, organizing, and decision making and not to forget the agreements made whether verbal or written. To cut the long story short, i got screwed, and not in the good way.

For reasons you should understand, i will not mention who. For that particular event, i found out that the equipment i had been promised (Pioneer cdj 800-mk2) had been replaced with some complicated and a bit faulty Denon 500, mind you i hadn't even known there were denon turntables! I had to buy rc cables, a usb cable for the serato SL box that id be re-reimbursed later and to add insult to injury, i never got paid in full. I was promised to have the money transferred to my mobile account by the next morning but when the time came, my calls and text messages went unanswered.Don't get it wrong, its not the money i was upset about. . .well maybe a little, but its the principle. A man is only as good as his word, and if you disappoint someone the first time, don't expect him to work with you again.

So i wondered, do i look like a mouse? Am i so easily pushed around that nobody takes me serious? If that's the case then i will stop dealing with the business side and let someone else handle that.

So now, i have a manager/agent. Its not yet official, were still working on some kinks here and there about branding and packaging, but when it becomes official, you'll know. He seems like a nice guy, well, he IS! and he can definitely get the job done! (lucky me)

So, who's the mouse now!
